University Research Associate I (Verde Island Passage Center for Oceanographic Research and Aquatic Life Sciences)

Emilia, known to others as “Buko,” currently works as the UniRA of BatStateU’s marine research center, VIP CORALS. She is a licensed scuba diver (1-star CMAS) and is involved with the center’s research projects at Verde Island, Batangas. Part of her duties includes organizing schedules for the other team members and to oversee the center’s research assistants (student interns). This coming school year 2019-2020, she aims to enroll in Masters in Marine Science majoring in Marine Biotechnology. Her field of interests include: molecular biology, bioinformatics, fish and invertebrates.
The following are her research project involvement as either a research assistant and/or project leader.

Buko graduated cum laude and as a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholar in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology – University of the Philippines, Diliman. She finished her undergraduate thesis under the Functional Genomics Laboratory of Dr. Ma. Anita Bautista.
After graduating, her first job was as a Game Guru at the Hungry Meeples Board Game Café and then as a Teaching Assistant at the John Dewey School for Children, Quezon City. Aside from the sea, her other interests include: video games, table top games, anime, astronomy and cute things.
